Bix is San Francisco's closest approximation of a supper club, with a superb bar and very good food that ranges from tony snacks (potato puffs with caviar, chicken hash, a truffled hamburger) to more serious dining (starters of foie gras, grilled marrow bones, and thoughtfully composed salads followed by carefully cooked fish, flesh, and fowl and amazing desserts). Dinner is served in a soaring, luxurious two-story space, rather art deco in style, with contemporary art. Live music (piano or piano with vocalist during the week, jazz trio on Friday and Saturday) contributes to the party atmosphere.
