Jewish Mags and Marching Bands

One of the lasting selling points of Oakland's nightlife scene remains the cool warehouse show. Ghost Town Gallery (2519 San Pablo at Grand) is one such remarkable industrial-sized venue, and it's one of two hosts for this weekend's Diamond Days music festival. Between Thursday, July 17, and Sunday, July 20, Ghost Town and nearby Mama Buzz Cafe (2318 Telegraph at 23rd St.) open their stages to a wide range of underground and experimental talent. Musicians range from the Neil Young–rusted rock of Seattle's Whalebones to the marching-band antics of Providence's What Cheer? Brigade to the more subdued stylings of San Francisco troubadour Garrett Pierce. The whole shebang is curated by Jewish pop culture mag Heeb, which is donating the proceeds to local charities.
